HUNDRED HOUSE, THE BUILDING THAT HOUSED LOVE THIS RECORDS WAS SITUATED NEAR LONDON BRIDGE. IT WAS ORIGINALLY A COFFEE BEAN GRINDING AND PACKING WAREHOUSE, BUT NO LINGERING AROMA OF IT'S FORMER ACTIVITIES REMAINED AFTER MIKE GOT HOLD OF IT . IN FACT YOU COULD SAY THAT ANY AROMA THAT EMANATED FROM THE BUILDING WAS THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS.
VIEWED FROM OUTSIDE, IT WAS STILL REMINISCENT OF THOSE FAR OFF DAYS WHEN THE PORT OF LONDON AND IT'S ENVIRONS CONSTITUTED ONE OF THE BIGGEST IMPORT/EXPORT OPERATIONS IN THE WORLD.INSIDE IT WAS TRANSFORMED AT A COST OF £4MILLION INTO A MODERN STATE-OF-THE-ART RECORDING COMPLEX.
GROUND FLOOR AND THE TECHNICAL STUFF.
ON THE GROUND FLOOR WAS THE RECORDING STUDIO AND PROGRAMMING/EDITING SUITE. THE FLOOR OF THE STUDIO ACTUALLY "FLOATED"SO AS TO ABSORB THE VIBRATIONS FROM THE RAILWAY THAT RUNS NEXT TO THE BUILDING. YOU WANT TO GET TECHNICAL? OK YOU ASKED FOR IT. THE STUDIOS MAIN CONTROL ROOM COVERED 115 SQUARE METRES AND BOASTED PLENTY OF NATURAL DAYLIGHT, WHILE A SECOND CONTROL ROOM, WHICH WAS USED AS A TRACKLAYING ROOM, CONSISTED OF A MALCOLM TOFT MTA980 CONSOLE WITH 32 INPUTS (AND 24 MONITORS) SPECIFICALLY CHOSEN FOR IT'S SONIC QUALITY.
THREE TAPE MACHINES - A SONY 48-TRACK DIGITAL, A SONY 24-TRACK DIGITAL AND A 24-TRACK ANALOGUE WHICH WERE SHARED BETWEEN THE TWO CONTROL ROOMS, WERE HOUSED IN A SEPERATE MACHINE ROOM. ALSO INSTALLED WERE I.S.D.N. LINES.
ALSO DOWNSTAIRS WAS A RECREATION ROOM, A DANCE STUDIO AND A CAFETERIA.
UPSTAIRS, THE BUSINESS END.
UP THE GRAND WOODEN STAIRCASE WAS THE HEART OF MIKE'S BUSINESS, M.P.G. (MODAL PRODUCTION GROUP). THIS INCLUDED MODAL PRODUCTIONS (MIKE AND MATT), DIGITAL MAYHEM (MATT), MIKE STOCK PUBLISHING,LOVE THIS SONG (PUBLISHING) AND THE RECORD LABELS LOVE THIS RECORDS, BAGS OF FUN, DING DONG AND SILLY MONEY.
